There’ll be plenty of action with Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service bringing its kitchen demonstration unit to reinforce cooking safety messages and their Road Safety Officer Matt Herrick giving advice about drink-driving.
The Partnership’s PubWatch Officer Jane Randall will be attending, reminding people about the need to stay in control when drinking and advising them to behave or be banned when watching matches in the borough’s pubs.
The Police are playing their part, setting up a mobile station where people will be able to meet the Town Centre Safer Neighbour Team.
Community Safety Partnership Sergeant Rob Smith will also be there, reminding people not to leave windows open when out watching the matches and to secure front doors if, for example, they are in the back garden enjoying a barbecue.
Fun and games will be provided by Derbyshire County Council Youth Services staff, who will be challenging young people to tackle an assault course while wearing beer goggles and bringing their youth bus with activities.
Crime Reduction Officer Russ Smith plans to visit stores where electronic games are sold. He will talk to staff about the need to check where games brought in for resale are from and point out the Partnership is now encouraging young people in particular to use UV pens to mark items such as Playstation, Xbox and Wii games.
The players in the town centre event will all be in New Square from 10am on Thursday 3 June.
Commenting on the event, Chair of Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership Cllr David Stone said: “The day promises to be fun but also to provide some really useful tips concerning safety during the World Cup campaign.
“There’s something for all age groups and we hope people will stop by and chat with the representatives of the various organisations.”
